Team Madigan Cycling Club held their annual Prize Presentation Dinner in the Coast Road Hotel Carrickfergus last Saturday night (10/11/07). Guest of honour was the club's former Secretary Mrs Rosemary Welsh who kindly presented the prizes. Club President and Sponsor Ronnie McKeegan in his address praised the club members for their commitment throughout the 2007 season. He was delighted with many senior performances including that of Simon Stockton and Mel McCann to name but a few, but like all members of the club he was full of praise for the young members of the club who he and his nephew Gary McKeegan have been coaching. Jonny Cole, David Neill, Richard Alexander and Mark Ramsey made selection to many Cycling Ulster teams competing around Ireland, and the UK. Jonny Cole even raced in the Cycling Mecca of Belgium. Ronnie went on to thank those who helped Marshal at events saying, were it not for people kindly supporting the riders / events by Marshalling we could not promote the high number of events that we do throughout the year.
Club Secretary / Race Secretary Davy Ross thanked Ronnie McKeegan and his wife Averil for their continued support and sponsorship of the the club. He went on to say Team Madigan Cycling Club are fortunate to have Ronnie as club sponsor for the last 19-years, but not just that, Ronnie and Averil deserve praise as they are very much involved with turning up at all the club events to help run them. Davy went on to thank the riders and marshals for attending the races / events he promotes and went on to thank the Coast Road Hotel. Club Chairman Gavin Meek then spoke and he also thanked Ronnie for his support and thanked Race Secretary Davy Ross for his effort throughout the season. Gavin went on to thank and encourage all those in the club who missed out winning an award this year, next year is a new season and better luck may come your way then.
Carrick's Simon Stockton came to the fore this year and took most of the major awards winning the Wright family Cup for first place in the Club Best all Rounder competition that ran season long. He also won the Senior Time Trial BAR, he was second in the Senior Road Race BAR, second in the Club Mountain Bike Cross Country championship, he was first in the Pursuit Series, and won P.B. medals for 10-miles (20.56), 25-miles (53.45) and 50-miles (2.00.45). A superb season for Simon!
