Mr Sprinter Stephen Farr pips breakaway rider John Neill on the line in a mass bunch sprint.
Poor Claire was unlucky to puncture at just over half distance when she looked very comfortable and taking
her turn at the front, unlike myself!  Big Bill crashes and goes over the bars and gets right back into it again!
Good race! as the limit group were only caught with 3-miles to go!

Club, 22-mile handicap Road Race, Ballycarry, Wednesday 10th May 2006.
Dark Horse Gary Johnston the Cave Hill pringle muncher took his first win in our club races, and on
a very challenging course! well done Gary!  Runner up Gavin Meek was the driving force in the second of 4 groups, he kept his group working hard to stay clear.  In the end the hard working scratch group were unlucky as they crossed the line only 15 seconds behind the winner.
It was a great turn out - 30 riders taking part and a very close racing.  It was good to see Claire do so well and the young lads Mark, Connor David, Richard and Ben!

Just a reminder that from next Tuesday 16th May and right through the Summer each Tuesday night the Orangefield Track Racing will be on!
We talked at a club meeting last year about getting involved in the Track this year, so now that the Track is all fixed up lets give it our support. 
It is a joint venture by both Federations!  Sign On fee will be around £3 or less for adults.  There should be a good turn out!

Leaves Ballycarry crossroads at 7.00pm.  Goes via Mill Bay, Ballylumford, Brown's Bay, and the Gobbins. 
This run will replace the over the Glens run which was listed for the 7th June.

Club, Mountain Bike Championship, Woodburn Forest, 14th June 2006.
Scratch race! very close racing! John Neill rocketed into a 30 second lead in the first of 6 laps and then was unluckey to puncture.  That ended any chance for John.  Paul Agnew was the new leader with Geoff McCrory right on his wheel in second.  At 20 seconds behind in third was big Simon Stockton and Jonny Kyle at 30 seconds in fourth, Gavin Meek was at 50 seconds in fifth.  By the final lap the chasing four closed the gap on Paul and Geoff but the big Larne man had it in the bag.  Geoff still on his wheel could not find any more power to pass Paul.  Simon closed to 5 seconds for third and Jonny to 20 seconds in fourth, while Gavin was very pleased with his performance holding fifth at 50 seconds.
David Neill fought of the multitude of forest midges to take the under 16 Championship.  Time keeper (me) just got eaten alive!

Club, 18-mile Handicap Road Race - Larne Road / Ballahill, Wednesday 28th June 2006.
The race was handicapped. Group 1 went at 0.  G2 went at 3.30.  G3 went at 6.30. John Neill was on his own at 7.00 minutes.
It was veteran Bobby Law who just had enough left in the tank to out sprint Gavin Meek as the groups all merdged arond the same time on Ballahill.  Geoff Swann dug deep to finish ahead of Davy McGrath for 3rd and 4th places at 3 seconds behind.  Davy Clarke led out the sprint for 5th with Paul Agnew, Geoff McCrory, Mel McCann, Simon Stockton and Gary Johnston all at 14 seconds behind.  The next wave in was Jimmy Clarke, Kevin Locker, Albert Shaw, Ronnie McIlwaine at 40 seconds behind.  The gallant in-form John Neill  was next in having sat up after a long persuit on his own that was into a strong head wind up the coast which unfortunately was not accounted for by the time keeper / handicaper (me!).  I'm sure all will agree that in hindsight this was most regrettable and John should have only been handicapped by around 10 seconds behind the third group!!  Apologies about that John it was unfair!!  Jonny Kyle was next in followed by Brian McCammon and Stephen Farr.
The young lads had a great race with Mark Ramsey out sprinting Conor Clarke in the under 16 category, while David Neill showed his strength by sticking with the older boys and finishing just behind them to take the under 14 win!

Club, Handicap Road Race Trophy, Larne Road Kilroot, Wednesday 16th August 2006.
Handicap: Group 1 at 0. G2 at 3.30. G3 at 6.00. John Neill at 6.10.
Well done John!  Well done everybody!  A close race with a bunch sprint!  In the first group Big Bill and Richard were unlucky to crash out near the Bla Hole.  Then in the second group a large lorry pulled up and blocked the road at Kilroot splitting the group.  Gavin Meek and Gary McDermott got by it and worked hard in pursuit of the leader young Mark Ramsey who was the only rider left from the first group.  It was a head wind up the coast and the large third soon reeled in the remaining second group riders.  John Neill made a flying start and soon got on to the third group.  At Glenoe Mark was holding on well with 45 seconds advantage over the industrious Gavin Meek and Gary Johnston.  The bunch was at 1.40 behind Mark.  Mark was caught on the Scrap yard climb by Gavin and Gary and the big bunch was rolling on strong up over the climb and on the Beltoy they caught young Mark who rode superbly it must be said!  Gavin and Gary were now on the Ballahill climb with the bunch breathing down their necks.  It was at the top of the climb with only with a mile to go that Gavin and Gary were caught after their gallant effort!  Now it would be caution all the way in to the finish line.  With under a 1/4 mile to go the sprint began and it was John Neill who powered his way to first place to finish a bike length ahead of Stephen Farr and Davy Clarke to take the trophy.

What a wet night! Not even the Ducks were out!  Well done all those 15 brave critters!  it was a great turnout on such a bad night!  Young David Neill rode a blinder and took the trophy in fine style by knocking some three and a half minutes of his PB. I know he tried hard when he said after he finished 'I feel sick' , but he was not half as sick as me! because he was my minute man and I could not catch him!  It was a hard night and even so - some good times were recorded.  Gary McDermott hit another PB, well done Gary.  Big Simon too!
