Team Madigan Club 1999
Ireland End to End
Mizen Head,
Co.Cork. Stat of 1999 End to End.
Apprehensive face's before the off.
Did we drink enough Guinness the night before?
It
is with deep regret we have lost our good friend Hamish Rankin (right
side of back row in blue top) who died suddenly in October 2001. It
is with great sadness we have also lost our colleague and good friend John
Lindsay (left of front row) who lost his fight against cancer in June 2003
at the age of 37 years.
263-miles covered from Mizen
Head the team have an over night stop at the Franham Arms Hotel, Cavan,
Co. Cavan and the crack was mighty, with the Hotel management making us
feel very welcome. Making the presentation of the Carrickfergus Borough
Council's plaque to the Hotel manager is Davy Ross. From left: John
Elder, Mervyn Black, George Doherty, Jimmy Johnston, Nigel Laffin, Hotel
manager, John Lindsay, Davy Ross, Stephen Farr, Davy Jamison, and Hamish
Rankin
End to End tea stop, in Kenmare Co.Cork.
In Photo - Mervyn Black (back-up driver),
Hamish Rankin and Jim Johnston. Do you see Mervyn doing mother, and
Jimmy asking is it the Glengormley cut? sorry an in house joke.
1999 Ireland End to End Team, at
finish in Ballycastle, North Antrim. " All smiles now that it's over".
Left to right back row: Stephen Farr, David Jamison, Hamish Rankin, John
Elder, Jim Johnston. Front row: Nigel Laffin, George Doherty, John Lindsay
and Davy Ross. The riders had to contend with a very strong northerly head
wind for the entire 381 miles. But the fantastic views through the Mountains
of Cork and Killarney made it all extremely worthwhile, as well as the gallons
of Guinness and John Elder's and Jimmy Johnston's non stop crack and bantering.
