2014 Club Race Results (temporary page):

Club, Cairncastle Hill Climb 2 April 2014.

Well done Curtis on his hard earned win. John was very sporting in not objecting to Curtis getting a late start after he showed late having to make a last minute repair to his bike. John rode a blinder too with only 2 seconds between them. Chris gave the storke a blast taking 3rd, while Vet Nigel got between the top Seniors for a well deserved 4th. Ben and Paul kept it in single figures superbly and Rhys rode very well indeed for a young lad. Everyone did well on a bad cold wet night. Many thanks to all who had a bash and to Ronnie for Timekeeping, Stuarty and Brian for their help at the start.

Ronnie reminds members to sign on as soon as they arrive at the events, this allows him time to arrange start orders. Thanks! DR.

Club hill-climb, Carncastle, Wednesday 3th April 2013

Stephen Harkens Wins again. Our Ulster Hill champ holds on to the top position of the first club hill climb for the fourth year in a row. But he didnt win it easly- some young guns are not far away. Great time Curtis & Ben, in fact there are no bad times from the 16 starters (out of 40 club members with a racing licence). Well done to everyone especially the first timers who had a go on this hard 2 mile course, climbing 686ft. Conditions were good with blue skies but with a Stevlio feel with the snow banks on boths sides of the road for the second half of the climb.  Thanks to Ronnie, Davy C & Rodger for timing / starting.  Next Wednesday's handicap road race is at Glenoe. Remember to sign-on at least 15mins before start time & also check if your on the marshal list. SS

Club, 20-mile Handicap Road Race, Glenoe, 10 th April 2013

Congratulations to Alan Graham on his fine win of a mass sprint after the first Club Road Race of the season. Great to see 26 riders sign-on this evening for the fast 20 lap - 1.1 mile circuit race. The riders were set off in 4 groups on a cold but dry evening- ten in group-2, eight in group-3 & six in group-4 (scratch). Group-2 were set off before a hard working Group 3 comprising of last year's winner Jonny Kyle tested a few legs by powering off the front a few times but with no-one keen to go with him, the group stayed together until it merged with Group-2 at 13 laps to go. Chris H & Paul had a go for another break but the now large group of 14 wouldn't let it go to far. Group-4 (scratch) rode strongly together and could only take 10secs per lap- so only merged with 6 laps to go.  A bunch sprint was on the cards and so it proved to be.  A few riders launched their sprint early just after the last corner, but the experienced waited a little closer were it was neck and neck with the complete group going over the line at such a pace two cameras had to be viewed numerous times to work out positions.  Big Danny Hylands who is always in the mix got fourth, Damien third, another regular Jonny took second this year and Alan won by a tenth on his first club race since his return to the club. Well done to Dean (U14) completing his first club race, all the best pro's start at that age:)

Many thanks to Ronnie on the line, Chris with a fast camera and to all the Marshals too!

Next week is the Road Bike Only 10 mile Time Trial. Park and sign-on at Ballygalley carpark, sign-on 6.45pm, Race starts 7pm. ss

Club, 10-mile Time Trial (Road Bikes only), Ballygalley, 17 th April 2013

Another Brilliant!! turnout tonight on a windy / showery April evening. Great to see the first timers to the club TT posting some very respectable times. This was the second annual Road Bike only, club TT & again no record breaking times, although wasn't much chance with 20mph winds tonight. It was a fast ride up to Glenarm (Tandem touching 31mph most of the way) but a hard ride back to Ballygalley which showed who has the power in the legs. Once again Stephen Harkens showed class to power into first place with the only sub 25min time. New-comer to Club racing this year Paul Stenson a minute slower riding to 2nd place and young Curtis proving he's one to watch, missed second by 1sec to place third with Stuarty Scott riding well to fourth place.

Many thanks to Ronnie, Davy & Billy on helping on a night most would rather be relaxing in front of the TV. Next Week- Club Mountain Bike XC at Maghermourne Quarry, everyone welcome, even if you don't want to race. SS

Club, 20-mile Handicap Road Race, Bellahill, 1 st May 2013

Please note the result has been amended. Ben was 5th and not 13th. He had been mistaken for Gary McClune who was also wearing a blue helmet. Sorry about that Ben! DR.

Congratulations to Glenn Cobain on hard win in a sprint finish with Stephen Harkins at the end of 5 gruelling laps. Stephen and Curtis drove the scratch group (G4) hard from the gun, splitting it to pieces which enabled them to catch G3 in the last lap. Again great to see such large numbers on a fine but chilly evening. Full report to follow, minor results are provisional. Next week's race- Oldwood Road , Duel Carriageway, Antrim (2-miles from Dunsilly). Thanks to Davy and Ronnie for their continuous support and thanks to the marshals on a cold night.

Club, 10-mile Time Trial, A26 Antrim (Oldwood Road), Wednesday 8th May 2013.

Dry before the start, lashed it down during the race and dry after race. But never the less a lot of very good times for an early season 10 T.T. Congratulations to Stephen in recording 20.49 and knocking on the door this year of taking the club record of 20.10. Big 'Now so Thin' Nigel has not slowed any after his now well documented 3rd in the world epic Strava Spring Classic Challenge 2,780 miles in the month of April / is almost on par with the space shuttle. Nigel's time of 21.52 is not hanging around. Good to see Jonny Kyle back to fine form with a 21.56. But what about the big tall fella Paul Stenson just claims his bronze in his first 10T.T. and his silver in his second 10T.T. no T.T. helmet or fast T.T. wheels, with the right kit he is on a 21.30. Well done to all the riders tonight you all rode very well indeed. Thanks to Ronnie for time keeping - a great job as always. DR.

Club 29-mile Handicap Road Race (4 Laps), Ballycarry, Wednesday 15th May 2013

Well done big Nigel a close finish and bad luck Stephen. A good race! Ronnie was not too far out with the handicaping as the race was all together with 10 miles remaining due to the hard work of Nigel, Stephen, Curtis and Chris. So a 13 man sprint for the finish line it was. Everyone rode as hard as they could on a dry but bitter cold evening. Well done to everyone who took part and many thanks to all the Marshals and to Ronnie on the finish line. DR.

Club, Handicap MTB Time Trial (Not the Trophy race), Woodburn Road, Wednesday 22 May 2013.

Good to see a fair turn out tonight at short notice due having to change venue last minute. Some light rain at times and cool. The race was based on first over the line wins and riders were handicapped pre race start.

Well done Jonny a fine win and just reward for kindly marking out the course this afternoon. Steven rode well taking 2nd place and is getting back a bit of form. Jack rode a blinder for his age and the handicap Geoff was given was a bit too much for him to make up, but even so he placed well. Roy has kept up his good form from last year when he won the MTB Time Trial Trophy race. Ricky too had been over handicapped, as were Brian and Bill. This can be corrected for the next MTB T.T. What a ride Daimen did on his Cyclo Cross machine - fastest on the night, but Damien asked not to be included in the result as the course suited the Cyclo Cross bike more so than the MTB bike. Fair play to Daimen!

Next event is a handicap Road Race Moss Road next Wednesday night 7.00pm. Please check the events calendar for rostered Marshals on the night. DR.

Club, 24-mile handicap Road Race, Moss Road, Wednesday 29th May 2013

Well done Jonny and bad luck Glenn, a great sprint after 24 miles of racing. Also a great result for Stephen in his first year racing taking third place in the sprint., and Colin is starting to show good form too taking 4th. Ben is coming good and holding his own in good company with a 5th place in the sprint. Big Ken Mr steady is always in the mix / great work Ken. What can you say about Albert - fantastic, what a man after all he has come through taking 7th. Big Paul is as keen a mustard with power to burn, he rode strongly for 4 laps but the crash 10 days ago when he was inside the last K of the Duffin Transport stage race while in the lead group on the final stage left the big man sore and had to give in with 2 laps remaining tonight but held on for 8th place. Mark Forester now in the Plus 50 category rode very well taking 9th. Sylwek and Jack kept each other company for much of the race taking 10th and 11th. The hilly course did not suit big Danny but he enjoyed the race taking 12th place. Big Michael battered away for a well earned 13th and Brian after 4 laps looked like he could stay away but is was not to be and 14th was his placing. Peter who was a fine rider 20 years ago before very serious illness amost cost him his life rode on his own most of the night for a well deserved 15th place, Peter will improve as the season goes on. Spare a thought for Stephen Harkens who was solo scratch at 30 seconds. It was into a strong head wind on the downhill section that Stephen was losing ground on the 3rd group at a rate of 5 second per lap. Knowing he was not going to be able to catch the 3rd group after 3 laps at very high out-put he decided to call it a day and save him self for theRas Dunegall at the weekend where he will lead a Team Madigan team of 5 this weekend. Good luck to Stephen and the guys. Stephen Farr who is just starting to get back to training used the club race to help bring his power up another notch, and it will not be too long before he is back up to pace with the front runners. Many thanks to Ronnie for time keeping and to all the Marshals too for a job well done. DR.

Club, 17-mile Hilly Circuit, Kilroot to Bellahill, 6th June 2013

Another Brilliant! turnout on a lovely summer evening, 27 riders matching our largest turn out of the season in the first road bike only TT. Conditions were close to perfect with a slight easterly breeze coming from the sea which made the coast road section a little slower but a tailwind up the Lizard climb into Glenoe, then a lumpy ride south down the seven sisters to the tough finish at Bellahill. Stephen Harkens is still on form after great results at last weekend's Ras Donegal road race where he collected enough points to be promoted into A1 ranking. Stephen finished over 1 min ahead of anyone else covering the last few miles with a soft rear tyre! 2 nd & 3 rd went to Jonny & Nigel showing super form & Stephen Douglas finished fourth with the most improved time from the start of the season. Other good results were Ben and Colin McCluskey & First Lady Nicola Kennedy all showing improving form.

Many thanks to Ronnie & Billy on helping again. Next Week- Club Road Race at Bellahill again. Remember to sign-on at least 15mins before start time & also check if your on the marshal list. SS

Club, 28-mile Handicap Road Race, Watchhill - Cairn Road, 12 th June 2013

Congratulations to Jonny Kyle on a great sprint finish of 12 riders at the end of a wet 4 laps of Watchhill to Cairn Rd circuit. This was a change of course due to road works on the Bellahill Rd, it's a great course if it was dry but a couple of showers kept everyone cautious on a few corners making the back of the bunch work hard to stay in touch. After 2 laps all 4 groups joined due to a strong scratch group setting a high pace. Stephen Harkins then made a break in lap 3 on the drag to Snowy Glen with Ben & Curtis following, opening a 10sec gap. This was quickly closed down by Colin Porter as his main rival for the Senior Cup- Ben was in the break. After that it was set for a sprint past the Sub-station & up the greasy short climb to the finish line. Jonny powered away with the other strong sprinters Nigel & Danny settling for 2nd & 3th. Next week's race- 10 mile TT at Brown's Bay. Thanks to Ronnie & to the Marshal's, some covering corners in short notice. ss

Club 28 mile handicap Road Racr, Watch-Hill course (Changed from Ballyvallagh course) Wednesday 26th June 2013.

Congratulations to Stephen Harkens on a fine solo effort on the last of 4 laps that seen him power away on his own to hold off the chasing group. Jonny Kyle was very unlucky as he punctured just 200 yards after he and Stephen Harkens attacked, a change of wheel got him back in the race but chasing behind the group that was chasing Stephen. It was a good race on a tough course. Albert Douglas was also unlucky splitting a tube on a loose stone, sadly this put him out of the race. Brian who led the race for 14-miles then got the +50 Veteran top points for his effort. Well done to everyone you all rode very well indeed. Many thanks to the Marshals and to Ronnie on the finish line. DR.

Club 25-mile Time Trial, Woodgreen Ballymena, Thursday 25th July 2013 (N.I. Champs).

It was a funny old night, would the race be run or not due to a Thunder storm? In the end it was run in bright blue sky and dry roads. Some of our members underestimated their own abilities and chose to ride in the club race only / not in the championships, nothing to do with the entry fee! / they just felt they were not going well enough to medal. As it turneded out Jonny shocked himself and rode a blinder. His time would have seen him take the Veteran bronze medal in the championships and Team Madigan would have taken the team medals with Jonny, Stephen and Nigel. It is one of those you have to take on the chin! I think we should obtain our own medal for Jonny that say's -Jonny should have a 2013 Northern Ireland 25-mile T.T. Veteran Bronze medal and we hope this medal will take the edge off him not getting it. Don't worry about it Jonny it was just one of those things and we all feel the pain for you. You are good enough to medal next year! Keep the chin up ye boy ye! Well done to all the riders / graet times! Thanks to Ian Johnson and Gordon Parker for timing the event and to Billy Heslip and Brice Irvine for Marshalling the roundabouts, and to Brian McCammon for starting the riders off. DR.

Club H'Cap Mtb Time Trial C'Ship Trophy, Woodburn to Knockagh, Wednesday 31st July 2013

Rather wet evening, well done to the few who braved the heavy rain. The roads had as big puddles as the lanes tonight. Jack had a couple of wrong turns & Nigel was going strong as usual. On form Jonny powered passed everyone to win with a time just 30secs slower than the last race. Thanks to Bill for timing the event. SS

Club 24-mile handicap Hilly Road Race, Brown's Bay, Wednesday 7th August 2013.

This race is perhaps the most difficult to handicap of all the club races, Ronnie was not too far away this time as only a few seconds split the first four riders over the line. Congratulations to Gary on his first club race win and Stephen in taking second place. The pair worked very hard and worked well together to maintain their advantage. Stephen and Nigel were on a mission reeling in rider after rider from their eleven minute handicap on the four lap tough hilly circuit / very impressive to watch as they whistled through the fast Hollow Road big dipper. On the last lap on the approach to the finish line they had Gary and Stephen in sight but Gary and Stephen gave all they had and managed to hold on for the win. Well done to all the riders who took part, and thanks to Marshals Jenny, Brian and Jonathan. Thanks to Ronnie for Time Keeping. DR.

Club 28-mile Handicap Trophy Race, Watch-Hill course, Wednesday 14th August 2013.

Congratulations Curtis on the fine win. Breaking away with around 10-miles remaining from one large group / all groups had merged and riders became cautious so the pace dropped. Curtis took his chance and opened a 15 second gap going into the last of 4 laps on the tricky and wet Watch-Hill course, He managed to increase his lead to over a minute at the finish line before Jonny Kyle won the bunch sprint for second place ahead of Glenn Cobain and young Rhys McKendry who rode a fantastic race tonight at age 16. Stephen Harkens was well in the mix too in 5th and big Danny, Stephen Douglas, Ben, Chris Hutchinson, Stuarty and Gary were all in close contact as a blanket would have covered them all. Well done to everyone for having abash. Many thanks to Ronnie for timing and to Philip, Jim, Andy and Bill for a great job in Marshalling. DR, (Result amended as Ken's video shows Gary ahead of Stuarty. Glenn is a +50 Vet / not Veteran). DR
