2017 Club Race Results

Club 20-mile Handicap Road Race, Gleno, Wed 12th April 2017.

Good hard racing tonight. The scratch group making the catch before half distance in the 20-mile handicap race. Groups 2 and 3 worked very hard and should be proud they made a good race of it. Young Johnnie did well going the full distance once caught by G2. Young Chris was in superb form managing to jump in with the scratch group once caught and was in the mix of the final sprint. In the sprint for the line it was a photo finish between Gary McCullough and Richard Maybin. Gary just took the win by 2 inches. Gary McClune rode very well indeed and was a close 3rd. Katharine was a close 4th ahead of Andrew Steele in 6th. Chris Donald on his under 16 gearing was just a little bit behind the others taking a superb 6th place. 40 seconds later Stephen Farr led in the chasing group. Congratulations to Gary McCullough and to Richard who was so close to a win. Well done to all the riders on what was a cool night. Many thanks to all the Marshals and to Ronnie on the finish line. 2016 Club Race Results

Club 20-mile Handicap Road Race, Gleno, Wed 6th April 2016.

Well done Gary McClune holding off the bunch over the final 3 laps of 20 to just take the win from a fast chasing Richard Maybin who was unlucky when his solo effort with 6 laps failed but fair play to Richard who dug deep to sprint for second just ahead of Curtis, Gary McCullough, Gary Walker, and Stephen Douglas in 6th. Well done one and all on such a cold night. Good to see Meta going so well for half the race and young Chris too until cramp set in with 2 laps to go. Thanks to the Marshals Bill, Jennifer, Jack and Roy. Also thanks to Steven Stewart for signs and helping on the line with Ronnie. DR.

Club Road Bike 10TT, Ballygalley, Wednesday 20th April 2016.

Congratulations to Stephen only one second in it and well done Chris being so close. The weather was superb with no wind at all, but this did not help the riders tonight as the times were down a little on those windy nights so there you go, a bit of wind can make for a faster night. Well done one and all for having a bash, good to see so many out. Thanks to Marshals Eddie Fleming, Danny Hylands and Stuarty Scott and the Start Holder Colin Porter he did a great job and gave us all a good laugh too, Cheers Colin. Thanks to Ronnie for Timing the race, a grand job as always. DR.

Well done Nigel on a hard night with the course 0.1 of a mile too long by most Garmins. Great rides by Stephen, Katharine and the two Gary's. A strong headwind on the 1-mile longer return leg meant it was never going to be a quick night. Well done to all and it is good to see Callum, Meta and Chris coming on well. Bad luck to Gary McClune who was a DNF due to a puncture. Thanks to Ronnie and Steven for Timing. DR.

Club 29-mile Handicap Road Race, Ballycarry, Wednesday 11 May 2016.

Well done Gary taking his 2nd win this season. Curtis rode well too and just faded in the last 300 metres finishing 5 secods behind in 2nd. Andrew Steele had a good race too taking 3rd at 21 seconds. Nigel led in a 3-up sprint at 26 seconds in 4th as the ever improving Stephen Douglas just pipped impressive Katharine for 5th by quarter of a wheel. This six had a superb race! Meta was superb tonight being in the mix until the last few miles. Chris Donald junior hung in well too for an under 14 and should be a very proud young man tonight! Everyone rode well / a good night's training all round. Pity Richard had gear problems and was not able to start. Ben lost his Oakleys so if anyone found them please contact him. Thanks to all the Marshals and to Bill for a great job brushing the corners! Thanks to Ronnie on the start finish line. Great weather too! DR.

Congratulations Roy superb riding by you're 5 rider group to stay clear and all 5 being there at the end sprinting for the line. Bill a close second and new man Michael rode a blinder in his first race taking third. Chris had his best race yet working well with the others and Joanne too did her bit and was delighted with 5th as she crossed the line. Richard led in the sprint for 6th just pipping Gary. It was the early laps that cost the scratch group the race as they underestimated the first group. it was not until 2 of 6 laps completed that they got got everyone working hard but it was too late to wipe out the 7-minute handicap and at the end were 43 seconds behind.Well done to everyone and thanks to all the Marshals and to Ronnie on the line. Congratulations Steven, Stephen and Ian winners of the trophies on quickest times, and congratulations to Joanne, Jeremy, and Chris on winning the handicap plaques that were awarded to the first three riders on handicap, the first three on actual time do not count in handicap in order to give the slower riders something to go for. Well done to young Owen McCullough Gary's son who had a trial ride with his Dad following him around the course on their own but not in the race. A heavy shower made it a tought night for all the riders. Bad luck to Roy and Chris having bike issues. Many thanks to Meta who kindly Marshalled. Thanks to Roy for a good job too! DR.

Congratulations to Chris Hutchinson who tonight broke Gary McKeegan's long standing club record by 10 minutes 1 second. It was a fast night for the riders Nigel set a new PB for the distance while Richard recorded a superb 1,52.59 and Jeremy getting well under the 2 hours. Katharine was flying too getting close to 2 hours. The Ladies had a superb night as did all the riders bar poor Bill who had rode strongly for 42 miles before a pain is his leg forced him to pull up. Well done to all the riders 50 miles is tough going on a T T bike. Well done to young Chris who is getting better and better every month. Thanks to Ronnie for timing the event. DR.

Club 10-mile Hilly Time Trial, Browns Bay, Wednesday 20th July 2016.

A great ride by Richard tonight / he did well to pip Curtis over this hilly circuit. Gary W, Gary McC, and Katharine all flying too / well under 30 minutes. Good to see Gary McK out tonight and going so well taking 6th and Jeremy only a second behind in 7th. Bill moved up a place on the second lap for 8th and Colin who has not been racing did well taking 9th. Chris will be pleased with his effort taking 10th and maximum points in the Plus 50 Vets. Meta has kept at it all season and is now reeping the rewards and Lisa did well too on a tough course. Great stuff from our under 14s with seasoned rider Chris finishing ahead of ever improving Johnnie who has made a great start in competitive cycling and both recording good times for their age on this course. Many thanks to Ronnie for timing the race and to the Marshal Anderw and Ben. It was nice to see our ace rider Stephen Harkens out watching the race tonight, hopefully it will not be too long before we see Stephen in full flight in our club races once again. DR.

Club 28-mile Handicap Trophy Race, 4 laps, Watch-Hill Course, Wednesday 24th August 2016.

Well done Ben first over the line with Katharine and Andrew close behind. Ken was next in at 15 seconds down. Then a longer gap to Callum, Jonathan, Stephen and Chris Wheeler who had led the race for over two laps. Trying as hard as they could Gary W, Richard, and Gary McC were unable to bridge the handicap. Meta rode a blinder and was only caught by the scratch group in the closing few miles, and Nigel with broken ribs was unable to give his best and did well to finish. Young Johnnie had a good workout clocking 46 minutes over 14-miles on the hilly circuit. Well done everyone! Thanks to all the Marshals and to Ronnie on the finish line. DR.

Club John Lindsay Mem. 10-mile H'Cap Trophy Time Trial, Ballynure A8, Wednesday 31st August 2016.

Congratulations to Gary being fastest on the night, on a tough course that had a head wind on the longer return leg. Jeremy did really well too in getting under 23 minutes. Katharine is in superb form at the moment with a 23.25, and it was a close dice between Nigel and Gary. Big Ken put in a good effort too as did Lisa, Bill and Chris. Callum continues to improve as have Meta, Joanne, Chris and Johnnie.

Congratulations to Chris Donald on winning the Handicap Trophy, Chris set a new PB tonight to win it by only 13 seconds from Joanne who also clocked a PB. Well done to all the riders and bad luck Richard who had a crank come off after 2-miles. Many thanks to Robert Johnston for Marshalling the turn, and to Ronnie for Timing the race. There goes another season of club racing / it flew in. We hope you all enjoyed the events and look forward to another good season next year. I hope to have the BAR Tables etc ready in a few weeks! Thanks to everyone. DR.
