2015 Club Race Results

Club, Cairncastle Hill Climb 1 April 2015

There is no stopping 400 miles a week Nigel, what a man! Only 6 seconds behind and making a return to racing after a year out was Stephen, good to see him back and in great form too. Curtis was not too far away either at 16 seconds behind. Big Paul out on his winter bike rode very well too taking 4th. Only 2 seconds between father and son Rhys and Glenn, the signs of a good battle there this season. Great to see the ladies having a go tonight and recording fine times considering the head wind, well done Jenny and Rona. Likewise a great ride by young Chris in his first race! Well done to everyone for having a bash on such a wet and cold night. Thanks to Ronnie for timekeeping and Steven Stewart, Chris Bamberand Brian McCammon for lending their support. DR.

Club, 20-mile Handicap Road Race, Glenoe, 8th April 2015

Congratulations to Curtis on a superb win. After the scratch group reeled in all the groups by lap 9 of 20 on the 1 mile circuit, Curtis was very active breaking away several times and in the end managed to stay clear, Ben McCombe reacted quickly and joined Curtis. This was the wining move, and with 4 laps to go Paul Stenson set about bridging the 20 second gap and got there with 2 laps to go. Jeremy Martin also tried to bridge the gap but could not get there and returned to the chasing pack. It came down to a 3 rider sprint for the line with Curtis having the power to take a well deserved win. Paul rode a blinder tonight and was rewarded with second place and Ben who rode one of his best races tonight was well worthy of his third place. Known for his fast sprinting Stephen Farr led the bunch home in 4th with Jonny Kyle close behind in 5th. First year senior Rhys McKendry will be pleased with his 6th place. It was great to see the ladies out racing tonight and young Under14 Chris Donald riding superbly completing his 10 laps in 31 minutes 38 seconds. Well done to everyone, it was a good race tonight! Thanks to Ronnie on the line and to all the Marshals too. DR.

Please inform Steven or Davy if you have any queries about results.

Next week is the Road Bike Only 10 mile Time Trial. Park and sign-on at Ballygalley carpark, sign-on 6.45pm, Race starts 7pm. ss

Club 10-mile Time Trial, Road Bikes Only, Ballygalley, Wednesday 15 April 2015

Firstly apologies for the delay in getting racing underway on such a cool night. It was great to see so many riders taking part and a full mix of categories too.

Concratulations to Paul who rode a blinder after losing weight, his new power to weight proving to be the winning formula. Doc Chris had a good night too as did Jonny, Stuarty, Curtis and Stephen who is back racing after a year out. It was so cold Nigel kept his thermal top on and that would have cost him time. It was good to see the ladies out and getting a bit of competition going, big improvements will come as the season develops so us guys will need to start training hard. Stephen and Graham had bad luck at the start when the chain got jammed up and had to sit this one out. Good to see Graham back to better health after being very ill last year. Well done to everyone who took part and thanks to Billy Heslip for covering the roundabout turn in Glenarm and Ronnie for timing. DR.

Club 20-mile Handicap Road Race, BellaHill Circuit, Wednesday 29th April 2015

Congratulations Paul. No stopping the Big-Yin tonight! Paul was well tuned-up after the club trip to Majorca where 400-miles were clocked up including 31,000 feet of climbing. In tonights rain soaked, cold 4c temp race Paul put the power down from the gun along with Curtis and Jonny to reel in groups one and two. By lap two of four Paul broke clear from Curtis and Jonny and rode across to group two. He rode clear of them and group one. He was leading the race on his own with Gary managing to keep in touch. Going over the finish line Paul was well clear with Gary 30 seconds behind. Riders were well split up at the finish and glad to finish on such a cold, wet night. Well done to all the riders! Many thanks to all the Marshals who were soaked to the skin too. And thanks to Brian McCammon for helping to put out the signs and to Ronnie for time keeping etc. DR.

Congratulations to Gary and Richard on a superb effort to stay clear and take 1st and 2nd. Curtis managed to close in fast from the scratch group splitting the other two riders from group one Kathy and Chris who contributed greatly to group one's effort on the night. Well done young Chris 2 laps, 14.5 miles in 49.28 a great ride on a very tough course. DR.

Club 24-mile Handicap Road Race, Moss Road, Wednesday 3rd June 2015.

Strong riding all night by Curtis, a well deserved win! Chris, Gary and Paul only a couple of seconds behind in the sprint for the line after 6 hard laps of the Moss Road circuit. Well done to all the riders and to Kathy for giving the men a run for their money as did Jenny, Joanne and Lisa. Chris Donald had his first race in with the seniors, and boy did he do well remaining with them for two and a half laps before his third time up Castletown hill when he began to tire a little. We all wish him well for this Saturday's Under 14 open race at Biships Court. Thanks to Ronnie on the line and results, and thanks to all the Marshals too! DR. Note: Result amended as Ben was 5th and had not been included in the result by mistake. Sorry Ben! DR.

Club 10-mile Hilly Time Trial, Brown's Bay, Wednesday 10th June 2015.

Congratulations to Stephen a hard earned win on a tough night as a strong cool north wind swept the circuit. Nigel rode his normal blinder to finish only 15 seconds down on ace climber Stephen, while Paul coming back from illness was well pleased with his third place at 18 seconds behind. Jonny, Curtis, Gary and Jeremy had strong rides with 28s while Gary proved he is back to good fitness with his 29.20. Ben, Gary and Ken also in the 29s all good stuff. Well done to everyone it was a hard night on a hard course. It was great to see the Ladies out in force and recording superb times too. Also good to see young Sam out having a bash and young Chris doing so well too. Many thanks to all the Marshals Chris Bamber, Geoff Swann, Roy Lennox and Albert Douglas. Club 25-mile Handicap Road Race, Ballyvallagh Road, Wednesday 17 June 2015.

Well done Curtis and Nigel after breaking clear when the groups merged on lap 3 of 5 on the hilly Ballyvallagh Road wind swept course. The pair rode together until 100 metres from the finish line, when Nigel led the sprint. However the much younger man Curtis with only yards to go powered through to take the win by half a wheel. Gary McCullough led in the chasing group that also contained Chris Hutchinson, Gary McClune, Paul Stenson, Ben McCombe and Andrew Steele all at 45 seconds behind. Gary Walker crossed the line at 1.07 down, and Jeremy at 1.53 down. Ken led in the next sprint with Paul and Kathy, all three at 3.08 down. Jenny Ashby led in the next group out sprinting Andrew and Adele, all three at 4 minutes down. Well done to everyone for having a bash. Ronnie said he got a few of the handicaps wrong this week and will adjust them for the next race. As I know, as do a few others who handicapped races it is always a hard job to get the handicapping close and some times it can be away out for one or two riders depending on the course and wind speed. Thanks to Ronnie for time keeping and to all the Marshals for a superb job! DR.

Club Farm Lane & Forest MTB Time Trial Trophy Race / MTB League round 2. Woodburn Crossroads, Wednesday 24 June 2015.

Congratulations to Gary McClune for being the quickest on the night and winning the MTB Cup. Steven Stewart is back on good form again after his crash taking the 2nd place shield, while Gary McCullough took the 3rd place shield. Great ride by Roy to cross the line first in the handicap race and his wife Joanne a superb 3rd. Jonny Kyle who was not in his normal good form took it handy round the tough course for a change. Poor Damien suffered yet another puncture that put him out for the second year in a row. Well done to all the riders. Many thanks to Chris Bamber for timing the race and to Bill Mackness for Marshalling. DR.

Club 24-mile Handicap Road Race, Brown's Bay, Wednesday 29th July 2015.

Gary, Katharine and Ken took full advantage of their 9 minute allowance riding together and spreading the workload into the strong head winds and deserved their first three places. However Paul and Curtis are to be praised for their effort in trying to claw back time after they lost Jonny and Nigel who were off form tonight. Had they been on form and been able to work with Paul and Curtis the result could have been very different. It was a very hard night for all the riders as the cold north wind battered them. Chris Donald had a hard night with his front wheel rubbing the fork but pushed on to finish. Well done to everyone! Thanks to all the Marshals who were chilled to the bone too.

Congratulations to Ronnie McKeegan on the birth of his grandson today, Sharon and baby are well. (Ronnie was minding his other grandchildren today so was unable to attend tonights race). DR.

Club 10-mile Handicap Trophy, A26 Antrim, Wednesday 5th August 2015.

Simon returns with a bang recording the fastest time on the night 22.03. Speaking after the race he was delighted saying 'I just wanted to see where I was with my fitness as I plan to return racing next year, I am delighted with the time'. Stuarty rode a blinder too at only 2 seconds behind. It was a tought ride back to the finish into a strong wind for the riders, but the main thing was the heavy rain that was forecast never arrived, just the odd sciff of rain. Congratulations to Katharine on winning the Trophy after improving by three and a half minutes from the start of the season 10 at Ballygalley. Good rides tonight by all the riders and young Chris did well into that strong wind for his size. Thanks to Ronnie for timing! DR.

Club John Lindsay mem. 10-mile Time Trial Trophy, Woodgreen, Thursday 20th August 2015. (Venue change due to Roadworks at Ballygalley).

Amended!

A very tought night as strong winds swept the A26 said big Paul Stenson, he went on to say our riders did well taking into account the conditions. Congratulations to big Paul who finished 6th overall in the open race (Ernie Magwood Super 6) from 70 riders.Congratulations to Stephen Farr on winning the John Lindsay 10-mile Handicap Trophy. Congratulations to Katharine who recorded a PB. Were it not for being stopped by traffic at the turn and ongoing gear problems Katharine would have been in the 23 minutes. Never the less Katharine has had a superb season as have all the girls. Well done to everyone who gave it a go. Keep up the good work young Chris!

Note corrections made for Katharine, Jennifer and Chris. Apologies re the errors! DR.
